A Love That Stays

I have spent enough time learning how to carry myself through difficult days.

I know what it is like to wake up with old wounds still close to the surface.

I know how easily fear can return when a heart has been disappointed before.

I have learned to look okay while holding things I still have not found words for.

Then you came carrying the kind of love that asked me to soften.

A part of me wants to believe that your presence can make everything feel lighter. I want to rest in the way you care for me. I want to let your hands reach the places in me that have stayed guarded for too long.

But love carries a responsibility. It really does.

It cannot only feel good while the storm is far away. It has to remain when my fears return, when my trust takes time, when I need gentleness more than perfect answers.

I am still learning that healing is not something another person can give me completely.

You cannot carry every pain I have lived through. You cannot erase the things that shaped my fears. That work still belongs to me.

But you can meet me with honesty.

You can make your love a place where I do not have to pretend I am already whole. You can stay present when I become difficult to understand. You can remind me, through the way you choose me, that I am safe enough to keep opening my heart.

That is all I hope for.

I do not need you to save me.

I only need to know that loving you will never ask me to abandon myself again.

So I hold this question close, because it matters more than any promise we can make: will your love calm the storm, or merely mask the wounds I have learned to carry?
